There is no shortage of choices in activities for kids. The challenge is finding the right fit, both for your child and your family. TBK offers a balanced approach to teaching karate, keeping kids active and engaged, both physically and mentally, while they build strength and confidence.
Your child will thrive regardless of athletic ability, and you’ll see a personal transformation on and off the mat as they learn the martial art of Tang Soo Do. TBK becomes a home away from home! Classes for different skill levels (beginner/group, intermediate, advanced) are offered multiple times a week to provide flexibility.
True Balance Karate taught a variety of age groups some of the basics in karate. By the end of the class, everyone was able to break through a board!! Everyone looked like they were having a lot of fun and able to take away something new from course.

Everyone is welcome at TBK! Students are greeted by friends and instructors as they arrive, and begin class with warmups and stretching.
Training focuses on choreographed forms, coordination, discipline, respect, listening, following directions, and proper partner work. Repetition of skills ensures techniques become second-nature, to be used in a situation requiring self-defense.
While the content of classes may be predictable, TBK instructors are always developing exciting new activities to keep classes fresh and fun. They use equipment, specific directions, and supervision to ensure safety. Classes end with stretching and a True Character program character development lesson.

TBK uses a belt system as a visual representation of the skills each student has learned. The youngest students (ages 3-9) typically begin with Little Dragon striped belts while learning basic techniques, self-defense, and the first choreographed form.
Once they’ve accomplished specific goals, they progress to adult belts and continue to learn more advanced techniques, forms (including staff forms), one-step sparring and self-defense, and the history and traditions of the art.
Karate is an individual journey with individual accomplishments. You compete with yourself and challenge yourself—it feels good to achieve goals and earn a new belt! That said, you don’t do it alone, but with support from the TBK family. In addition to learning a martial art, some of the greatest benefits to karate include confidence, focus, respect, cooperation, resilience, and leadership skills.
Great family-centered school
TBK is a great family-centered school. Owners live in the community and provide a wonderful mix of instruction and support. My daughter has been studying under them for five years and started when she was 9. Many students start with no karate knowledge whatsoever and all are able to learn at their own pace.
Instructors who truly care
My daughter has attended classes at TBK regularly for the past 5 years and loves it! The owners are the instructors who truly care about each and every one of their students. The owners instruct every class in a positive and motivating manner. Everyone learns and everyone has fun!
My son is stronger and more confident
They understand that every kid is not the same, so they can differentiate between each child’s needs and ensure they get the best instruction possible. I have seen improvement in my kids, not only physically, but mentally and socially as well. I enrolled my son, initially, to learn discipline and mental strength along with social skills. Not only did TBK deliver on my expectations, they went beyond what I had imagined. My son is stronger and more confident physically and I can see his confidence and mental strength develop alongside his physical skills.
I cannot say enough
Within a couple of weeks we noticed our daughter was more respectful, better focused, and more confident. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the instructors and positive family atmosphere here!
